Treating the Traumatized Child: One Size Does Not Fit All

Treating traumatized children can be challenging and perplexing for even the most seasoned clinician. The workshop session will address core principles and strategies used in treating the traumatized child. The differences between single incident and complex relational trauma will be addressed, as well as some different therapeutic modalities and styles, and some ways to think about navigating through different approaches. A portion of the workshop will allow for discussion of cases.

Promoting Secure Caregiver Relationships with Gael McCarthy Saturday Oct. 20

NCSCSW member, Gael McCarthy, will present on promoting attachment between children and their caregivers, particularly those children in adoptive, foster or kinship care. Her workshop "Promoting Secure Child-Caregiver Relationships: the Whys, the Hows and the Challenges" developed from her doctoral dissertation findings and her many years of clinical experience working with children and families. She will present on Saturday October 20 at the UNC School of Social Work 9:00-11:30.

Terry Real Workshop "Relational Living: Helping Couples move from Conflict to Fulfillment" Friday Nov. 2

On Friday November 2, internationally known marriage and family therapist, Terry Real, will be discussing his concept of relational living and applying these principles to clinical work with couples. Mr. Real is recognized for his work around men’s and couples issues. He authored the best-selling I Don’t Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression and, for couples, How Can I Get Through to You: Reconnecting Men and Women and the recent The New Rules of Marriage.
