In Plain Sight: Bisexual and Asexual Erasure in the Queer Community
Friday, March 18, 2022, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT
Category: Virtual Trainings
The LGBTQ+ community is thought to be all inclusive and welcoming of all who identify as queer. Unfortunately, this is not always true. Within the LGBTQ+ community there is a history of erasure of asexual and bisexual individuals. The erasure of asexual and bisexual individuals in the LGBTQ+ community leads to increase marginalization of already marginalized individuals. The purpose of this presentation is to (1) explore the history erasure of asexual and bisexual individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, (2) understand how that erasure of asexual and bisexual individuals in the LGBTQ+ community is harmful, and (3) how to assist clients that are experiencing the erasure of their identities in a community that is supposed to be welcoming of them. This conference provides 2 contact hours of continuing education credit for social workers. Certificates will be provided following the training.
