Introduction to Public Speaking for Social Workers and Behavioral Health Clinicians

This introductory training prepares social workers, counselors and other mental health professionals to facilitate formal presentations to peers, the community and stakeholders. Mental health professionals engage in public speaking in a variety of settings including legislative hearings, community and staff meetings, educational forums, and fund-raising events. This training aims to empower social workers, counselors and other mental health professionals to build upon researching, writing and organizing skills for effective presentations. Participants will develop knowledge about various adult-learning theories including Constructivist Theory, AGES model, and Experiential Learning.
Additionally, the training teaches coping strategies to help manage anxiety during public presentations and enhance public speaking skills. The training helps participants to learn how to evaluate their own performances as well as evaluate presentations of others. Lastly, participants will learn how to incorporate constructive feedback for future presentations. This training will have a brief, online pre-course introduction. At the conclusion of the training, participants will have the foundation to present public presentations more confidentiality.
Registration starts at 8:00 AM. There will be 2-15 minute breaks and an hour break for lunch. Lunch is included with registration.
– Understand adult learning theories and concepts that serve as the foundation for effective public speaking
– Develop ability to transition content from reports and papers into structured presentations
– Practice integral stages of developing and delivering formal presentations
– Develop and implement strategies for overcoming anxiety about public speaking
– Further develop analytic listening skills and the ability to evaluate presentations made by others
This is a hybrid training, totaling 8 CEs. Two CEs will be pre-workshop online modules to be completed prior to training. Six CEs will be completed in person. Certificates will be provided onsite. NASW approval #A-256-5292019
