Training Description:

This group will highlight all the details that go into a successful therapy group. If you have an interest in leading groups, this training is for you. Jillian Pelzer, LPC has been leading group therapy for over five years and will be speaking about was to facilitate a successful group. We will be discussing popular group topics, creating a group curriculum, navigating group dynamics (such as de-escalating group conflict.) We will also review skills for managing multiple people at once in a therapeutic setting. Finally, the group will cover the benefits of group dynamics for both client and clinician. Participants will receive 2 CE Credits. 

As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

  • understand the difference between support groups & group therapy
  • market their groups
  • identify what makes a successful group
  • manage group dynamics and behaviors
  • identify the benefits of group counseling (client and clinician perspectives)

Biography

Ms. Jillian Pelzer has been working in the mental health field for over 10 years. She is a dynamic young therapist with a passion for helping her clients succeed and meet their personal goals. Jillian is a licensed professional counselor who studied at St. John’s University in Queens, NY for her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology. She then pursued her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from The George Washington University in DC. Jillian has worked for some of the most well-known mental health facilities in the DMV area including the Psychiatric Institute of Washington in DC and The Community Services Board in VA. Jillian counsels from a Person Centered perspective, meaning that she prioritizes each client’s wishes and needs while helping clients come to solutions and interventions that work best for them. Jillian is also solution focused meaning that she helps clients consider new solutions to problems that have otherwise gone unsolved. Jillian is a non-judgmental and open therapist that seeks only to help better the lives of each client she serves. Jillian has expertise in counseling client’s with depression, parenting problems, suicidal ideation, adjustment disorders, substance use problems, serious mental illness and more. Jillian looks forward to working collaboratively with you towards your goals.
